Myth: “£Millions on paint for a few cyclists.”

The days of pointless cycle lanes consisting of paint are over. Painted lines alone do not qualify for Government funding and would not be acceptable for the Bee Network. The schemes being built in Bolton are far more than that, as anyone who actually looks at the various proposals can see.

In many cases, the schemes are not even primarily about cycling. For example, the works at the junctions on Trinity Street and around the station concourse are primarily about increasing the capacity for motor vehicles at these junctions. It just happens that they also provide an opportunity to improve walking and cycling access as well as improving the quality of the spaces.

These projects are primarily about increasing motor vehicle capacity & reducing congestion.
